Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) in Europe

Also known as social and emotional development, SEL isn’t an add-on, it’s the foundation of whole-child education.

Read on to see why SEL (Social Emotional Development) is becoming a cornerstone of education across Europe, and how we’re making it simple for schools like yours to bring it to life.

We are proud to be the first platform in Europe dedicated to Social Emotional Development in primary education. And we’re here to make things happen.

Why SEL Matters Across Europe

SEL (sometimes referred to as Social Emotional Development) develops emotional intelligence, empathy, resilience, and social skills. It's more than a curriculum; it’s transformative.

  • The European Commission highlights SEL as a whole-school approach that nurtures students’ emotional awareness, well-being, and relationship skills. It is linked to improved classroom engagement, reduced bullying and disruption, and stronger academic outcomes from an early age

  • EU Lifelong Learning Competencies (2018 update): “Personal, Social, and Learning to Learn” was formally added as one of the eight key competences required for all learners in Europe. This policy framework embeds SEL directly into the European education agenda.

  • CASEL alignment: While CASEL (the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning) began in the U.S., the core framework, self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making, maps directly onto the EU’s lifelong learning framework, showing global convergence on SEL priorities.
